BORED with "Life of Pi"

So, I'm kinda bored with "Life of Pi". I fell asleep reading it last night and I NEVER fall asleep while reading a book.

It's not that "Life of Pi"is a bad book. It's not. It is a very well written book. The premise of the book (A boy stranded on a life boat with deadly animals) is very interesting and original. But, since Pi is the only human on the boat there is no dialogue, which means very lengthy paragraphs.  Let's be honest. Whose mind doesn't wander while reading lengthy paragraphs?

I am not going to abandon this book. Yes, it might be boring, but I want to know how Pi gets off the boat alive. (Assuming that this book is cliche and the main character lives)

Pi, in a way, is a very relatable character. In another way, he's not. The situation that Pi is in is DEFINITELY NOT relatable. How many can say that we were stranded on a life boat with a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a tiger? Pi is also invested in three very different religions. Most of us are only devoted to one or two if any.

I can relate to Pi because he is overshadow by his older brother. I have two older brothers and we are constantly competing to be better than each other. Pi is also trying to prove himself to his parents. Which I personally can't relate to, but I know other people who can.

I really hope this book can surprise me and make me more engaged!

  1. Dearest Corinn,

I know exactly how you feel. I was once a young girl (ok maybe about a year ago?) and I was struggling to finish before seeing the movie. Eventually I pulled through and once I saw the movie, the symbolism was very prominent and that's the main message I took from the story. I hope you make it out alive!

  2. Corrin, I totally agree with you I watched the movie when it came out but I was really bored and wanted to fall asleep but I do think it teaches a good message and has a lot to take away from it after.

  3. Acutally, I abandoned this book about a day after it started. The book sounded pointless and it was kind of lame with animals and only 1 wierd man on a boat, and the paragraphs are just LONG AND BORING.

  4. Corinn, I can definitely relate to how you feel. When I was reading the just about one-hundredth Nicholas Sparks book (Safe Haven), I couldn't get into it. I didn't even understand why at first because Sparks is one of my favorite authors and I've read almost all of his books. In the end though, I just abandoned it and watched the movie instead :). I think one of the main reasons for it was the long, descriptive paragraphs, like in Life of Pi. I could never finish a book if I was only forcing myself, even if I did want to find out what happens (tip: just look it up on Wikipedia). Seriously though, good luck and kudos to you for sticking with it 'til the end!

  5. I've heard a lot about this book and it has always sort of seemed to have a strange plot to me. I can sympathize with being bored from reading long paragraphs with only one character, who wants to do that? And I have to wonder how the author could write something like that, too, into a published and well-known story.

  6. The way you wrote this post made it very relatable to me: I've had to put down a book for the same reasons.

  8. I think it's great your not going to abandon this book! If I were you I would not be able to stand the long paragraphs and I agree I probably would have fallen asleep too. I loved the voice you used in this blog post. How you started off was great, you had me wanting to keep reading from the beginning. I felt like I was having an actual conversation with you in person!
